About University of Arizona

The University of Arizona was founded in 1885, being approved by the Arizona Territory's Thieving Thirteenth Legislature. Classes began for the first time in 1891 with only 30 students, at the first building constructed on campus, still used today: Old Main. In the first years of operation, the university held separate classes for high school students, due to the fact that there were no high schools in Arizona.

The 380-acre campus holds over 170 buildings, including the Arizona State Museum and Centennial Hall, which were designed by the famous Tucson architect, Roy Place.

The mission of the University of Arizona is "to discover, educate, serve and inspire". It is described as being the top public research university in the state. It is the only member of the Association of American Universities, providing a wide array of quality educational programs.

The Princeton Review named the University of Arizona as being one of the best colleges in the country and Washington Monthly ranked it in the top 50 nationwide institutions.

Many famous personalities attended classes at the University of Arizona, such as: Arkansas State Senator Gilbert Baker; the art-historian Marilyn C. Solvay; actress Samaire Armstrong; film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer; the NBA player from Toronto Raptors Hassan Adams and many others.
